northwest los angeles is a community area that consists of east hollywood, los feliz, silver lake, echo park, elysian park, westlake/macarthur park, and spacious griffith park .

over the past many decades, these areas have been occupied only by low-income hispanic families. In many areas, however, in recent years unimaginable rising rents and rising living costs have pushed young citizens further and further east and towards the city center. Neighborhoods are changing rapidly and rents are increasing to accommodate this. New trendy eateries/diners and shopping boutiques open regularly as property owners offer fixes and raise rents, pushing immigrant communities further east and south.

The area is roughly bounded by an inverted triangle, formed by freeway 101 west, freeway 5 east, and griffith park beyond the arctic circle, and both freeways have a couple of exits into a similar area. Freeway 2 starts/ends in the northwest regions of los angeles. Major streets that respect the area include vermont avenue and sunset boulevard.

The subway red line cuts through east hollywood with pauses in hollywood and western, vermont and sunset and vermont and santa monica. Continuing beyond the arctic circle on the network will take you through hollywood and universal city to the north hollywood arts district, and continuing south you'll pass into koreatown even as a result, the los angeles organ, ending at union station. Both the red and purple lines stop in westlake at westlake/mcarthur park station, along wilshire boulevard between downtown and koreatown. Rapid 704 along sunset boulevard from the los angeles headquarters and 2 continues along sunset boulevard through hollywood while 4/704 diverges onto santa monica boulevard. Less frequent as well as useful routes include 180/181/rapid 780 along los feliz boulevard between hollywood and glendale and 96 along crystal springs drive through griffith park.
